Universidad Austral has just been granted funding for creating the first FONDAP-Antarctic research center in Chile.

The 5 year (+5) project entitled “Research Centre for the Dynamics of High Latitude Marine Ecosystems (acronym IDEAL)” is led by our colleague Humberto Gonzalez.

The main objective of IDEAL is to improve our understanding of the response  of high-latitude marine ecosystems in Chilean Southern Patagonia (CSP) and Antarctic Peninsula (AP) region to climate change.

IDEAL will bring together national institutions in Chile and international partners in europe and the US. It has great potential for building a world class research center doing antarctic and high latitude science in Chile with strong presence in the southern most region of Punta Arenas. This new project represents exciting opotunities for ongoing and future MORFUN collaborations and student training.

CONGRATULATIONS to Humberto and his team!!
